Hey Fred,
Been doing some research about doing this convertion to my 88 B2000 on on every fourm your name seems to pop up
Pretty much on the hunt for one now, but the main question that i have currently is will my FED3 gear box fit up to the FE3N motor.
I have been told by a few people that they do and you need to run the standard b2000 clutch and flywheel on it. But i thought that i should check with some one that has done the swap before.
I am only going to run it NA at the moment just as the standard sohc is on the way out, so it doesnt need to be amazing.. Stupidley i just sold a S5 RX7 Box which would have been idea for big power
What my plans are anyway is get it in and running NA then get a SC14 from a Toyota and supercharge it. Be a little different
Also i see that your running crank angle on yours. is that just a rotay one?
Might just take a wee bit out of the fire wall at this stage any way just to run the standard Diz set up.
Any help that you could give me would be awesome

I don't know what a FED3 box is! If it's a standard ute box from an fe or f2 sohc engine, then yes, it will. You'll need any F block 225mm flywheel and clutch, the stock ute one is fine. So should an fe3 one be. When you have it apart compare them, it should be obvious.

Sweet, NA is fun enough anyway :-) If you get it SC14ed, I'm taking a ride in it! :-)

I don't know what a "rotay" crank angle sensor is. Mine came off a british ford escort fwd. The crank option is nice for several reasons :

Compatibility with aftermarket EMS solutions.
Accuracy of timing signals.
Lack of horrid CAS to interfere with the firewall.

Get a 36-1 fitted, get a megasquirt2 installed, (or a FreeEMS if you're super keen and tech savvy) and run wasted spark ignition.

I hope that's sufficient. If you keep the CAS/dizzy guts (minus the cap) then you can run the engine off that just fine, but the firewall will need some abuse as mine did.

Hope that helps.

Fred.

Thanks for that Fred, will get a build thread up once I get the motor sorted (hunting down a cheap one:))
Mate of my is an auto sparky and gets links cheap as chips so that might be the go. Have to wait and see :)

hahah yeah SC14 might be the Go!!!!

If cheap as chips is over about 500 to 1000nzd then it's cheaper to not do that.

Yeah think they are about a k... ish ish
was just looking on trade me http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 265519.htm
I see that it is only a very basic unit, what would be needed to modify to get this working on my pontential engine?
My knowledge on EFI is very basic as i have only ever built Carbed Engines (ported rotarys) :)

MS 2.2 for $450?
If you can get a link for a $k that's good going.
Supercharge? Man I was thinking the same thing...... when I sleep, I dream.
Go hard!
