The designs vary and the only good way to route coolant is from front of block to back of head with the correct gasket. Doing it the kia way is bad, just like the stock trucks and miatas/mx5s.

European parts houses stock FWD design head gaskets. If you get a head gasket kit by Payen (a cousin of federal-mogul), it is virtually a Mazda kit. Every detail in gaskets down to valve seals are identical to factory Mazda. Excellent quality.
For installs in Mazda GD chassis, a radiator hose from a mid 90's Toyota 3.0 cars works great with a slight trim in straight length.

Also in a GD chassis if you're in Australia you can use a top radiator hose from a Mitsubishi Magna.
And the heater hose that goes from the head to the core, you can use a heater hose from a Holden straight 6 engine, VB/VC/VK ones work, its a straight hose with a short 90 degree section at one end, so just trim it to the right length. The size is spot on.

So it's the Payen BR850 for just the HG and DR850 for the top end kit, right. It quotes me prices in euros, likely with VAT, I assume a US based browser would see USD prices with less tax. 30 euro for the HG and 53 for the top end kit.
